ICSU games against Indianhead and KKFS

On Wednesday of last week, the ICSU boys team defeated local rival Indian Head High school in boys basketball, Levi Miller had 21 and Jeff Chae had 17 points.

On Saturday the boys team beat KKFS by 15 points in a friendly match. Boys had a great defensive game.

The girls team lost in a very close game to KKFS.

This week the boys tipoff at 315 at Camp Stanley versus PICS(Pyongtaek international Christian School) followed by the girls game.

On Saturday at Camp Red Cloud. The girls basketball team continued their winning ways with a 26-11 win over Asia Pacific. The girls go into Christmas break 3 and 0 in the league and in first place.

The boys overcame the loss of their team captain John Gang (who had knee surgery on Saturday) and two other starters being injured to win at the buzzer on a shot by Jeff Chae to win the exciting game. Masa Haraguchi provided leadership, Hahn Lee had over 20 rebounds and Samuel Hsiao hit two big free throws at the end to go along with his great defense. The boys also go into Christmas break in first place in the conference. GO EAGLES!!!!!

Girls Varsity team pulled together and got a good win versus a pretty strong GVCS team.

Boys varsity had a good team effort with John Gang getting 8 points, Masa Haraguchi 8 points, Chris Sumler 8 points and 12 rebounds and Jeff Chae with 19 points. Strong defense by Hahn Lee and Samuel Hsiao also helped the team to a solid victory.

ICS basketball games versus PICS 12/2/2011

Girls team pulled out a dramatic win versus PICS (our sister school in Pyongtaek) 37-35. Julie Byun and Christy Won had very good games and led the team in scoring.

The boys varsity team played a very strong game and won 60 to 15. Leading scorers were John Gang with 12 points and Jeff Chae with 21 points. Masa Haraguchi and Samuel Hsiao had good games as well.

Tipoff basketball tournament

On Saturday, November 19th the boys Varsity and Junior Varsity basketball teams participated in a tipoff tournament at Camp Red Cloud.

JV team lost to APIS by two points in a good game and beat KKFS in their second game.

Varsity team beat APIS by 10 points, they were led in scoring by John Gang and Hahn Lee.

The Varsity team also beat IndianHead High School by 12 points. They were led in scoring by Jeff Chae with 11 points and Masa Haraguchi with 8 points. John Gang had 6 assists, Hahn Lee had 12 rebounds and Samuel Hsiao was a star on defense.

KAIAC Cross Country Champianship

Congratulations to the ICS Cross-Country Teams for a great finish to the 2011 season. The girls finished 5th for the tournament with all of them running their fastest times of the season. Julie Byun placed 3rd in the race with a time of 21:21 and Gloria Kim placed 10th. Both were All Conference and All Tournament for the 2011 season. The boys placed 2nd overall for the season and 3rd for the tournament. Jay DeVries won the race with a time of 16:54, his personal best this year. Mickey Kumar was 5th and David Kim placed 12th. Jay, Mickey, and Samuel made the All Conference team and Jay, Mickey, and David Kim made the All Tournament Team. Jay was also chosen as the Most Valuable runners of the season and Mr. Olling was chosen the Coach of the Year. Congratulations on a great year.

Boys' Varsity Volleyball finishes AISA tournament in 3rd, 2 selected to tournament all star team

The boys' volleyball team suffered their first loss of the season to the team from Osaka International School in the semi-finals of the AISA tournament. The boys fought hard but were unable to overcome the mental barrier of having one of their top players going down with an injury. In the first set one of the boys from OIS landed on Levi Miller's foot as Levi was attempting to block his hit. Levi came out of the game, returned briefly, but was unable to put weight on his foot. What the team found out the next day was that a metatarsal in Levi's foot had been broken by the impact of the hit. The Eagles lost the first two sets, but fought their way back into the fourth set to get a set win in the match. The Eagles ended up losing the fourth set which set them up to play Seoul International School for 3rd place.

The Eagles entered into the match with SIS for third place with the Eagles undefeated streak against KAIAC schools still on the line. It took everyone stepping up to fill the void left on the court with Levi injured but Chris Sumler filled in well in the front row, with Jae Hoon Lee coming in to do some emergency libero work in teh back row, and John Ko had some great hits to make up for Levi from both the front row and attacking from the back as well. It took the Eagles five sets, but they kept their winning streak against KAIAC teams alive and earned their first top 3 finish at APIS in two attempts (The Eagles finished in 4th in 2009). The Eagles ended the season 15-0 against KAIAC teams (10-0 DII, 5-0 DI) and were the only team in the tournament to beat the GSIS team that ended up winning the tournament over Osaka in the final match. The Eagles were the only team other than GSIS to only lose one match in the entire tournament. The Eagles have not lost against another KAIAC team (division 1 or 2) since their five set loss to Indianhead International School on September 29, 2010.

Cross-Country Asia Pacific Invitational

Congratulations are in order for the boys and girls Cross-Country teams as they were very successful at the Asia Pacific Invitational in Guam. 22 Teams from around Asia were there competing for the top honors. The ICS boys team placed 6th out of 19 boys teams with Japheth DeVries placing 4th with a time of 16:54 and placing him on the All-Tournament team. Honorable mention goes to Mickey Kumar who placed 16th, just one place from the All-Tournament team. DK Kim placed 52nd and Samual Hsaio placed 54th out of a field of 140 runners. Nobu Haraguchi also ran well running a time of 19:15. Our girls team placed 10th out of a field of 16 teams. Julie Byun placed 20th with a time of 22:15, Gloria Kim placed 26th, Emily DeVries placed 43rd and Lisa Yu placed 90th. The team relay is where the team shined. Beating three teams that beat us in the team competition, ICS placed 5th out of 15 schools who had a complete boys and girls team. Combining the girls race, boys race, and team relay, ICS placed 7th overall for the tournament. This was the most successful tournament we have ever had. Congratulations to all the runners for a great tournament. Saturday at 10:00 is the Conference Championship here in Uijongbu. Come out and support the team.

Varsity Boys' Volleyball Team Earns First Seed from Pool Play at AISA

The Eagles Boys' Volleyball team earned the first seed from their pool by going 2-0 in matches on Sunday at the AISA tournament. The Eagles won their first match against KIS 3-0 and continued on their winning ways into their second match versus GSIS starting the match 2-0. The Knights from GSIS climbed back into the match in the next two sets evening things up at 2 sets apiece. The Eagles were down a couple points in the fifth set when the teams switched sides of the court, but the Eagles came back to win the fifth and final set of the match 15-13.

The boys will play in the tournament semi-finals tomorrow at 1:00 pm against the winner of the Osaka Senri International School - Korea International School match. If the boys win that match then they will be playing in the tournament championship at 5:30 pm. After the AISA tournament concludes the Eagles will be preparing for the KAIAC division 2 tournament which is set to take place this coming weekend at Yongsan International School of Seoul.

Eagles Boys' Varsity Volleyball Team wins 11th straight, Clinch Sole Possession of DII Regular Season Crown

The Boys' Varsity Volleyball Team clinched sole possession of the regular season title for the second year in a row with a 3-1 win versus Centennial Christian School. The Eagles have now won the conference title three years in a row, sharing it with GSIS the first year and winning it outright the last two years. Today's win also secured the #1 seed in the division 2 tournament. The Eagles have entered the tournament in the first seed for three years in a row including this year. They finished second in 2009 and won the tournament in 2010.

The boys got off to a bit of a shaky start spotting CCS a quick 5 points before really getting into the match. The first set ended 25-19 in CCS's favor as the boys worked to climb back into a set that appeared to get away from the Eagles from the start. The Eagles used their momentum gained at the end of the first set to continue to roll to a 25-16 win in the second set. The Eagles then finished out the match with a 25-19 win in the third set and a 25-18 win in the fourth.

Leading the way for the Eagles were three different players who did not miss a serve (Levi Miller 28/28, SungGuk Lee 9/9, Samuel Gu 5/5).
The Eagles played well at the night picking up a number of Spike Kills and Blocks led by John Gang (11 Kills, 2 Blocks) and John Ko (11 Kills, 6 Blocks) with SungGuk Lee contributing 3 Blocks and Levi Miller adding 1 Block. The second line of defense also did their part when the hits made it past the block. The team combined for 34 defensive digs lead by Levi Miller (11) and John Ko (6), with contributions from the rest of the starters; ByungKwon Lee (5), Eric Chae (5), John Gang (4) and SungGuk Lee (2).

The Eagles will attempt to make this year their first undefeated season in boys' volleyball on Saturday as they finish their season at APIS. The girls' team will play at 9:00 am and the boys' game will follow.

Eagles Boys' Volleyball Team Secures 1st Seed in the KAIAC tournament

The Eagles Boys' Volleyball Team picked up a big win at Indianhead International School on Monday night, October 17. Tonight's 3-1 win over Indianhead International School helped the Eagles to secure the top seed for the upcoming KAIAC tournament and guaranteed the Eagles at least a tie for first place in the division, with a chance to win the division outright in the last two games of the season. This is the Eagles third year in a row to secure at least a portion of the Division 2 Crown and it will be the team's third year in a row to enter the tournament as the top-seeded team. The Eagles also secured their place in KAIAC Division Two Boys' Volleyball history as the only team to "threepeat" as conference champions since the league split into two divisions.

Leading the way in today's game was Levi Miller who was 37/38 serving with 6 Aces, 2 Set Assists, and 3 Spike Kills. Team co-captain John Gang contributed 10 Spike Kills and 4 Blocks along with 9 set Assists and 7 Defensive Digs to the winning effort. Junior Eric Chae added 4 Spike Kills in 12 Attempts and Junior SungGuk Lee set up 8 Spike Kills for his teammates. Overall the team served 88/98 with 12 Aces pulling closer than earlier games to their team goal of 90% serving per game. The boys were almost able to pull off a three set win with a huge comeback in the third set to force extra points (the Eagles were down by as many as 10, but the set ended 27:29 in Indianhead's favor). The 25:4 set score in the first set of the match marks the second time this season that the Eagles boys' team has held an opponent to 4 points in a set.

We continue to praise the Lord for the great things he is doing through the volleyball team.

Try Out week: October 31 - November 4 in the ICS gym.

Measuring for uniforms will take place some time during tryout week.

ICS Cross-Country

Congratulations to the boys and girls cross-country teams as they ran their final race at Seoul International School. The girls beat SIS with a score of 27-29. Julie Byun placed first with a record time of 21:35. Gloria Kim placed second with a time of 22:40. SFS girls beat ICS with a strong showing although Julie and Gloria were second and third in that race. The girls are 5th place in the final standings this year. Great job. The boys as well beat SIS handily placing our top 4 boys in front of their first. Leading the way was Jay DeVries with a time of 17:11 and Mickey Kumar with a time of 17:25. SFS beat ICS 26-31 but ICS has the talent to beat them come Conference. Jay was first and Mickey was third in that race. Mickey and Samual were beat by a SFS runner by only 1 second and David Kim was beaten by only 4 seconds. The boys tied for second in the final standings with YISS. Seoul Foreign first. Great job ICS Eagles. Pray for us as we leave for Guam on Tuesday for the Asia Pacific Invitational.

Boys' Volleyball win against a short-handed KKFS team, Run season streak to 9-0 with 1 win needed to clinch a share of the Division 2 Conference Crown

The Eagles Boys' volleyball team continued in its winning ways with a 3-0 win against a short handed team from Korea Kent Foreign School. The Kent team entered the match with only 6 players available due to various circumstances. The Eagles got out to a fairly quick start and continued to roll through the sets with scores of 25:16, 25:4, 25:14.

John Gang lead the way for the Eagles serving 31/33 with 11 Aces, 9 Set Assists, and 2 Spike Kills. ByungKwon Lee Served 9/9 with 4 Aces and added 3 Spike Kills. Levi Miller had 6 Spike Kills in 11 attempts. Chris Sumer was 6/6 Serving with 2 Aces and contributed 3 Spike Kills in 6 Attempts and also added 1 Blocking Point. David Gu also contributed 2 Service Aces on 8/8 serving and he added a Spike Kill as well. Jonathan Lee and Daniel Kim also scored 1 point each for the team by blocking.

All 12 Eagles players who suited up for the match logged playing time. The team went 66/70 serving with 20 Aces. The boys also combined for 21 Spike Kills.

Cross Country Results

The International Christian School Cross Country team continues to run at the top of the pack. On Wednesday, October 5th, the boys beat Seoul American High School, YISS, Korea International School and Kent. Jay DeVries place 1st with a time of 16:55 and Mickey Kumar placed 2nd with a time of 17:03. The girls team also did very well placing two in the top three. Julie Byun was 1st with a time of 21:47 and Gloria was third with a time of 22:30. Then on Saturday, October 8th the boys and the girls beat Osan American School, TCIS, and GSIS. Jay DeVries and Mickey placed 1st and 2nd for the boys and Julie placed 1st for the girls. The boys are currently in Second place and the girls are in Fourth place in KAIAC. Congradulations

The Eagles boys' volleyball team had another great match Saturday night at Camp Stanley. The team won in three straight sets against a much improved Centennial Christian School team. Set scores for the match were 25:11, 25:13, 25:17. Leading the way for the Eagles were John Gang (12/13 Serving with 3 Aces, 7 Set Assists, 4 Spike Kills in 10 Attempts), ByungKwon Lee (20/21 Serving with 2 Aces), Eric Chae (6 Spike Kills in 12 Attempts, 2 Service Aces), Levi Miller (10/11 Serving with 1 Ace, 6 Spike Kills in 16 Attempts, 9 Defensive Digs), SungGuk Lee (6 Set Assists, 2 Blocks for Points) and John Ko (4 Spike Kills in 16 Attempts). The ICS boys Cross-Country team ran very well on Saturday afternoon. Although SFS beat us, Jay DeVries and Mickey Kumar placed 1st and 2nd respectively. Jay ran a personal course record of 17:57 as well as Mickey with a time of 18:17. ICS beat SIS placing all 5 of our runners before SIS'S #1 runner. The ICS girls were unable to produce a team but ran very well individually. Julie Byun ran a personal course record of 23:29 placing 2nd and Gloria placed 3rd with a time of 24:07. Congratulation teams.

Lady Eagles Volleyball

So far the Lady Eagles Volleyball team has is 1 - 5 for the season, 0 - 3 in KAIAC DII Conference. Each week a player of the game has been chosen. The players of the game so far this season are Cindy Kim, Christy Won, Songy Yoon, Seiwa Asami, and Sophia Kim. The Lady Eagles are hoping to improve on the season as they play the APIS Green Hawks this Wednesday, October 5, 2011. Fighting Ladies!!
